Peloton

Leaving work today, I saw this group of about 20 or 30 cyclists riding in a big peloton up the street at their own pace. Not sure what it was about, but it seemed to be organised. Maybe reclaiming the streets for the bike - I don't know, do you?

Plan B

Having a little trouble getting that old laptop to connect to the internet, so I thought the exciting new world of open source might be worth a try.

Resurrecting the dead

How bad have things got when you need to dig out and rebuild an old laptop for the children to play on, just so you can get a hold of your own machine?

The fruits of my labour

There's something cathartic about building flat pack furniture. It provides a sense of achievement and there's a tangible result sitting there to admire.

Two pipers piping

I came across this pair in full flow when out for a lunchtime walk.
Thought they were advertising the European Pipe Band Championships in Belfast at the end of this month but I was wrong. It was August's World Championships in Glasgow they were here to publicise.
As for drummers drumming, lords-a-leaping or ladies dancing, they were nowhere to be seen.

New life

Rivalry

According to my camera phone, I took this today. Who am I to argue?

As it turns out, it's not the photo I thought it was but my neice, who attends the named school, left a couple of "notices" in my son's room. He's starting at a different school in September.

Don't you just love it?

Hiding from the rain

We wondered where the kids had gone & then noticed the garage door was open. "It's raining, so we're camping out" was the answer when we asked what they were doing.

Carnmoney Old Cemetery

I was at this cemetery today interring the ashes of an uncle in the same grave as his parents - my grandparents. Until today, I never knew where their grave was, as the last burial there was sixty years ago.

The large cross is the Cross of Sacrifice - a memorial erected in honour of the dead from the First World War. Cave Hill, one of Belfast's iconinc landmarks is on the skyline in the centre of the photo.

Welcome to middle age.

I got new glasses today, the top ones. They're varifocals and they go nicely with the ones I now have to use at the computer.
